An Evening Dress

I’m working on an outfit for the lovely Ms Esohe to wear to her cousin’s wedding at the end of this month. She contacted me and we got talking about colors, fabric and styles. So, this is the sketch I came up with:



I decided to use and modify a Vogue pattern (V8389) view A. I cut the sweetheart neckline and sleeves using freehand.



Esohe found some lovely purple silk dupioni in NY and mailed that out to me.



In the meanwhile, I got her measurements via email and started working on the muslin. A muslin is basically a rough draft of the outfit to be made using cheap fabric (before you cut the more expensive fashion fabric). Here is the front and back view of the muslin:



I added some tulle to give the bottom of the dress more volume (which will be even more voluminous because the tulle in the muslin is not the full length and wasn’t gathered).
